In a historic achievement, the Indian U-19 Women’s T20 team, under the leadership of Shafali Verma, secured their position as the first-ever champions of the World Cup. The team put on a commanding display, dismissing England for a mere 68 runs before easily reaching their target in just 14 overs. This victory marks a significant step forward for women’s cricket in India, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a prize of INR 5 crore for both the team and support staff. “The World Cup win has elevated the status of women’s cricket in India significantly,” said BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in a tweet.
